Dual Career Program

Mississippi State University is committed to the recruitment and retention of highly qualified and productive faculty, administrators, and other professional staff members.  With increasing frequency, many candidates recruited by MSU have a spouse/partner who may be seeking employment as well.

What is the Dual Career Program?

In response to this need, the Department of Human Resources Management has developed the Dual Career Employment Assistance Program to address some of the special employment needs and concerns of dual career hiring. This program is designed to help the recruit’s spouse/partner in networking and locating employment opportunities in the Golden Triangle area.

The Dual Career Program is not a placement or an employment agency and cannot guarantee employment. Nor does the program extend preferential treatment to program participants regarding the University’s hiring process. Rather, the program is designed to provide participants with the tools and information resources needed to support their search for suitable employment.

Who is eligible for employment assistance?

The spouse/partner of faculty, senior academic administrators, and professional staff at the director’s level are eligible to receive services.

What are the services provided?

  • Access to University Job postings as well as posting from other employers in the surrounding area
  • Resume review and critique
  • Referral to career development resources
  • Development of job search strategies
  • Networking opportunities with the Partnership (Business After Hours)
  • Information about the community

How does the program work?

Access to the Dual Career Employment Assistance Program is by referral only.

  • The hiring department, Vice President, Dean, Director, department head and staff contacts Human Resources Management for assistance.
  • Human Resources will contact the spouse/partner.
  • The accompanying spouse/partner is asked to provide resume/vitae. The resume is critiqued, and suggestions are provided based on area business needs.
  • After the resume/vitae are updated, suggestions will be provided regarding job vacancies and/or networking opportunities in the community.
  • As the accompanying spouse/partner continues their job search, support will be provided and tailored to the individuals needs. Additional services may include letter assistance, mock interviews, researching local companies, and other job strategies.
  • The spouse/partner is encouraged to keep in regular contact with Human Resources at 662-325-3713.
